We find less is more: Minimalist designs outlast those packed with bells and whistles. To that end, we build our products with purposeful simplicity.
Experience with New England's unpredictable climate inspired us to build products that stand up to rain, sleet, and snow. Look for products that use X-Pac™ , X-Ply®, and YKK AquaGuard® zippers for the best resistance to moisture.
Craftsmanship is at the core of every Flowfold product design.
We believe responsibility is multidimensional.
We are fortunate to benefit from a rich heritage of high quality craftsmanship: Textiles and sails have been manufactured in New England for generations. Drawing on the legacy of Maine craftsmanship, Flowfold products begin life as prototypes and are tested until functionality and durability exceed that of conventional alternatives.
Our commitment to our community and environment is multidimensional.
Every Flowfold product is Made in the USA because we believe in supporting our local workforce. We know that domestic manufacturing ensures healthy conditions in the workplace, results in higher quality products and requires fewer non-renewable resources.
When choosing materials, our most important consideration is to maximize durability and performance. We obsess over efficiency and break norms in our industry in order to reduce waste and use less energy.
COMPOSITE RACING SAILCLOTH WITH X-PLY®
Developed by Dimension Polyant for the world's sailboat racing and windsurfing elite, composite sailcloth with X-Ply® is a laminate of waterproof mylar with durable inner matrices of polyester and aramid fibers. It has an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio, excellent resiliency, and a unique aesthetic pattern.
X-PAC™️ OUTDOOR FABRIC
X-Pac™ by Dimension Polyant is a laminated sandwich of nylon or Cordura face fabric, and an inner X-Ply (diamond) pattern of polyester yarn for added tear strength and bias stability. The lighter styles have a very thin internal waterproof film, and woven polyester backing for added stitch-holding. The heavier styles just have a thicker waterproof film backing for increased longevity. This light, durable, and flexible fabric is designed to stand up to abrasion, stress, and moisture. Due to the sandwich style construction, X-Pac™ is very tear resistant and has a great strength-to-weight ratio.
Cordura® is a leading name in outdoor fabrics. This durable fabric comes with a natural spun aesthetic and offers a durable water repellant (DWR) finish to keep moisture out. It is twice as durable as standard nylon fabrics, and three times as strong as standard polyester. Cordura® resists abrasion, fading, and mildew.
LITE SKIN® COMPOSITE FABRIC
Lite Skin® is a patent-pending, non-woven polyester face fabric designed specifically by Dimension Polyant for improving the abrasion resistance of Carbon Fiber racing sails. Adapted for packs, it is lightweight, UV resistant, and waterproof. It also has a softer hand than many other composite fabrics.
ORGANIC COTTON AND NATURAL FIBERS
When cultivated using organic methods and combined with other fibers like hemp or bamboo, this material requires far less resources and is significantly more sustainable than conventional cotton. It feels silky soft and is very breathable.
ACRYLIC AND 3M THINSULATE™️
Acrylic is a time-tested, soft synthetic fiber for warm apparel, and Thinsulate™ was designed by 3M™ to provide premier insulation with maximum flexibility. Microfibers within the material trap body heat while allowing moisture to exit, which makes this technology perfect for applications like winter hats and gloves.
For over 20 years, climbers and mountaineers have trusted Sterling® to reach the peak. Every Sterling® rope is proudly made in the USA and inspected by hand. Rope that is not first quality is set aside, and that’s where we come in. Perfectly suited for leashes and handles, we have given this reclaimed rope a second chance to see the summit.
YKK AQUAGUARD® ZIPPERS
Nearly waterproof, YKK® Aquaguard® zippers come with a polyurethane coating that keeps moisture out. These zippers offer strong and smooth action and a modern aesthetic.
